WHAT IS APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA)?

ANALYSIS

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research based, scientific method that began with the work of B.F. Skinner. The science measures observable behavior. It looks at what occurs before a behavior (antecedent) and what happens after a behavior (consequence). In addition, the methods of ABA are applied by breaking down skills into simple steps and teaching each step in succession. Skills are taught with the use of prompting to assist learning. A correct response is followed by positive reinforcement which increases the likelihood that a behavior or response will occur more often in the future. Advance ABA Care uses Errorless Learning in order to decrease frustration, and make teaching and learning a fun activity.

ABA based intervention is validated for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but is also applicable to children with other developmental disabilities. It is a set of principles and guidelines upon which educational programs are based and should not be used synonymously with a specific program.

Treatment goals target specific developmental areas such as:
  • Attending skills
  • Imitative skills
  • Fine motor and gross motor skills
  • Language skills
  • Conversation skills
  • Functional play
  • Functional skills/self-help skills
  • Social skills
  • Theory of Mind/Social Cognition
  • Toileting skills
  • Problem behaviors

Language Access Plan

This Language Access Plan is to ensure meaningful access to services for persons with limited English proficiency (LEP). A limited English proficient person is a person who does not speak English as his or her primary language, and who has a limited ability to read, write, speak, or understand English, and by reason of his or her limitations, is not able to understand the process for ABA services. The purpose of the plan is to provide a framework for the provision of timely and effective language assistance to LEP persons who need ABA services.

Clients may bring family members or friends to interpret for them if they would like. Advance ABA Care has a diverse set of employees which can also help with translating for clients. If a client speaks a language that our employees do not speak and do not have a family member or friend that can translate for them. Advance ABA Care will help the client to find an interpreter to translate for them. Currently Advance ABA Care provides documents translated in the two major non-English spoken languages in Michigan – Spanish and Arabic. If the client does not speak either Spanish or Arabic. Advance ABA Care can provide documents translated into the client’s language.

The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, inventiveness, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our employees invest in their work represents a significant part of not only our culture, but our reputation and company’s achievement as well.
